Mazda Steals the Show in New York with the MX-5 RF
March 24 2016,
The New York International Auto Show was particularly important for Mazda. The Japanese automaker firstly unveiled a spectacular car, the Mazda MX-5 RF (retractable fastback), then took home one of the most prestigious titles in the industry, the World Car of the Year.
Let's start with the MX-5 RF. It is basically a Mazda MX-5 but with a retractable hardtop, and it would not be exaggerated to call its one of the most beautiful cars of the New York Auto Show. The roof comes off in a fluid motion that is sure to get you noticed on the road.
Under the hood, we find the same SKYACTIV four-cylinder 2.0-liter engine delivering 155 horsepower that powers the traditional MX-5. A six-speed manual gearbox is standard while an automatic is also available.
The 2016 Mazda MX-5 is the World Car of the Year
A few hours after the unveiling of its hardtop convertible Mazda MX-5, Mazda received another major honor, the World Car of the Year, which was awarded to… the 2016 Mazda MX-5. The roadster beat out the Mercedes-Benz GLC and the Audi A4 for the prestigious title.
